MSPA ALUMNI NETWORK

What is MSPA?

The Medical Student Pride Alliance (MSPA) is an activist and social organization committed to empowering sexual and gender minority medical students and allies, increasing the number of physicians trained in LGBTQ-inclusive healthcare, and addressing the unique needs of queer communities through research, advocacy, education, and service.

What is the Alumni Network?

Recognizing the need for support for LGBTQ+ medical students to make it through medical school and into residency we wanted to create a network to support current and future students through this transition, as well as create a way for LGBTQ+ medical student graduates to connect with each other.

What are we doing?

We are recruiting residents to help mentor and give guidance to fourth-year medical students as they approach residency application cycle.

FAQ

Why Residents and not Faculty?

Our vision is to make this network a lasting component of MSPA, and we chose to start with one level to focus on building a foundation that is as strong and sustainable as possible. We would love to and hope to see it expand to involve multiple levels in the future.

Can international students or students who are not M4s join right now?

We cannot guarantee that we will have available mentors who can speak to these experiences. As a US based group of medical students, our networks are on the limited side outside of these contexts.

How much is expected of the mentors?

We recognize that people are incredibly busy. On the submission form we have space for you to select how much you want to be involved and for how long.
